The Call to Church Renewal IS a call to prayer. The church is won in tears and on our knees. We are of one heart with brothers and sisters who bear faithful witness to the gospel around the world. This week we urgently ask you to pray for:
Flood Recovery in the Midwest U.S., Particularly as our mainline churches work to recover the lives of their communities. Pray that God would use this crisis to renew the faith of many under duress.
For the church in Zimbabwe that is right now being violently persecuted by Mugabe’s supporters as the opposition has withdrawn from the election and violence has intensified.
For the Church in Nigeria, a center of global Christian leadership, as anarchy, revolution, and/or civil war threaten stability in this large country. Nigerian has the 8th largest population in the world. Churches are being burned. Christian children and women are being kidnapped. Violence is increasing and the state department has issued a travel warning to U.S. Citizens.
For the Presbyterian Church USA General Conference meeting today in San Jose, Ca. Pray that the Holy Spirit will fall upon this meeting and transform the hearts and minds of those who gather. Praise God for the amazing and powerful witness of the Global Anglican Futures Conference meeting right now in Jerusalem
BARNA STUDY: HOPE IN THE ASPIRATIONS
A new Barna study out yesterday on the ‘American dream’, indicate that people’s aspirations include relationship with God. The six elements that adults identified as very important included health (85%), living with a high degree of integrity (85%), one marriage partner for life (80%), clear purpose for living (77%), having a close relationship with God (75%) and having close personal friendships (74%). Being deeply committed to the Christian faith, making a difference in the world, and being personally active in a church all rose in value since the same questions were asked in 2000. Having a college education and owning a large home both declined in value.
